Honesty before anaesthesia
Every case begins with a CBCT scan and a conversation — not a chair. Bone volume, nerve position, bite forces: the anatomy sets the plan, never the brochure. Patients hear exactly what is possible, what is not, and why.
Implant dentistry · London
The measure of the work
Pedro Gutierres qualified in Lisbon in 2006 and has spent two decades on a single discipline: giving people back fixed, functional, permanent teeth. Trained across four continents and trusted with London's most complex cases, he is known for one habit above all — making the impossible merely complex, and the complex routine.
Today he leads Maida Smiles and Paddington Smiles, treats every implant case personally, and lectures internationally on implant dentistry. The philosophy has never changed: diagnose honestly, plan precisely, and stand behind the result for years — not weeks.
The journey
Qualifies as a dentist at the Egas Moniz Institute of Health Sciences — and almost immediately looks beyond general practice.
Moves to the UK to practise, while completing an advanced international programme at New York University College of Dentistry.
Earns a postgraduate certificate in Advanced Oral Surgery — hospital-grade surgical training that still anchors his work.
Completes a three-year Master's degree in Implant Dentistry (MSc ImpDent). Implants stop being a service and become the discipline.
Pauses UK practice and moves to Brazil to train with leading names in implantology — graduating from CETO and the APCD international advanced programme.
Adds conscious IV and inhalation sedation (SAAD, Queen Mary University of London), advanced bone augmentation, and Choukroun's platelet-rich fibrin protocols.
Founds Maida Smiles. Within a year it is named Most Advanced Dental Clinic at the Greater London Enterprise Awards, and its interior wins a Surface Design Award.
Opens Paddington Smiles — a second, fully private clinic built on the same standard, alongside Smila, his clear-aligner brand.
The craft
Every case begins with a CBCT scan and a conversation — not a chair. Bone volume, nerve position, bite forces: the anatomy sets the plan, never the brochure. Patients hear exactly what is possible, what is not, and why.
Guided digital planning decides each fixture's position, angle and load before the day of surgery. Where bone is missing, it is rebuilt — guided regeneration, sinus elevation, and platelet-rich fibrin drawn from the patient's own biology.
From single implants to full-arch immediate loading, surgery is executed under conscious IV or inhalation sedation when needed. Precise, quiet, uneventful — patients walk out the same day with fixed, functional teeth.
A 99.7% implant success rate is not a promise — it is a follow-up discipline. Reviews, hygiene protocols and long-term monitoring protect the work for decades. The last appointment is never really the last.

The founder
In 2019, in a city with no shortage of dentists, Pedro opened a clinic built around the patient's intelligence: prices published openly, plans explained in plain language, and a space designed to communicate its standards before anyone speaks. The bet became one of London's most awarded new practices — and grew into a second clinic and a clear-aligner brand of its own.
In their words
“Dr Pedro Gutierres is the best implant dentist in London — in fact, the world — I have seen.”
Doctify patient review, 2024
“Since I first booked an appointment with Dr Pedro over eight years ago, I have never trusted my dental health, nor my family's, to anyone else. Five stars are not enough.”
Doctify patient review
“I was very nervous about having a dental implant, but was immediately put at ease. I had complete trust in Pedro's expertise — the implants have made a major difference to my life.”

Design is a clinical decisionOur clinic interior won a Surface Design Award. People assume that was vanity. It was the opposite: in a private dental clinic, the space is part of the treatment — and it starts working on anxious patients before anyone says a word.Read entry
Teeth in a day: what immediate loading really meansWalking in with failing teeth and walking out of a London clinic the same day with a fixed smile sounds like marketing. It is real, well documented — and earned in the planning room, not the operating room.Read entry
How to choose an implant dentist: the questions that matterPeople search for the best implant dentist in London and meet a wall of identical claims.
